Description:
The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. The purpose of this position is to maintain and enhance enterprise web applications including portal, course management, research administration, document management, workflow, authentication and other key services. This position will work with senior developers in developing frameworks, modules and tools which are beneficial to UC Merced developers. Finally this position will work with the general campus on projects and research which benefits all of UC Merced.

Qualifications:
• Excellent analytical and design skills (customer interviewing, data modeling, writing prose, problem solving, process modeling, figuring out complex logic and data flows) in which solutions support complex, difficult, multifaceted, multi-tier computerized business systems.
• Experience and skills which provide the ability to be self motivating and require minimal supervision, while working within a highly structured team environment.
• Demonstrated experience with Java and related web frameworks such as Springframework, Hibernate and Struts.
• Must have experience with at least JSP, Servlets, MVC, and JavaScript.
• Demonstrated experience in writing (programming) complex web application such that utilize MVC processes.
• Must have experience with writing code that uses stored procedures, views, and triggers.
• Experience should include skills in using version control systems and distributed file systems.
• Prefer experience with GIT.
• Demonstrated experience with application development methodology.
• Demonstrated experience with Maven and Ant.
• Demonstrated experience with XML and XSL/T.
• Demonstrated experience with RDBMS applications development using Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server or Postgres.
• Demonstrated experience with standard programming techniques including analysis, design, work measurement, data collection, and work flow processing.
• Systems analysis and data processing skills are required to translate manual operations to automated processes.
• Demonstrated experience with complex database driven applications including installation and upgrade processes.
• Experience with helping to define application level security roles and working with database administrators to establish database level security roles.
• Must have experience in content, document, and workflow management systems.
• Excellent communication skills to describe functional business analysis, communicate client requirements, or explain technical designs in relation to computer technology on large business systems.
• Demonstrated presentation and writing abilities to communicate the analysis and conclusions to clients or groups of clients as needed.
• Proven experience in writing (programming) UNIX shell scripts as required in a UNIX-based technology environment.
• Demonstrated experience writing (programming) non-trivial programs in scripting languages, such as PERL, Python and Ruby.
• Extensive proven experience in providing and submitting to peer reviews within a team environment in which a proven Application Development Methodology is employed for software development.
• Demonstrated experience in balancing the team’s requirement for fast paced, self-motivating performance with the need for the team to adhere to group standards.
• A successful track record of working with people in functional business units in which technical expertise is often non-existent. This requires the ability to interview functional customers and extract software requirements without frustrating or antagonizing the customers.
• Ability to work successfully with minimal supervision.
• Ability to reduce complex situations to significant components, to recognize and anticipate problems and opportunities, to identify significant information, to identify and verify problems causes, and to use consistent, methodical, realistic approaches to reaching solutions.
• Active listening skills; demonstrated ability to present ideas and issues clearly in oral and written formats; demonstrated ability to provide and accept appropriate feedback.
