    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or as needed to successfully accomplish the essential functions of these positions. Overtime is anticipated and may be required.
    Travel Requirements: Varies, up to 50%

    SUMMARY: This position will be based in West Sacramento, CA, supporting the Senior Project Manager(s) in conducting historical records research or performing site investigations to identify or recommend solutions to mitigate pollutants or hazards that affect the environment. The Staff Environmental Chemist will utilize their knowledge of various scientific disciplines to participate in the collecting, synthesizing and documentation of data from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Staff Environmental Chemist’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Conduct and oversee site investigation and assessments in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff
    • Perform Quality Control (QC) review of field data and forms for legibility and accuracy.
    • Import field data (e.g., coordinate information, sample depth, photos, field notes, QC documentation) to Share Portal and Environmental Information Management (EIM) databases, as appropriate.
    • Initiate and maintain data tracking activity for laboratory samples.
    • Review boring logs and prepare for entry into EIM.
    • Perform database queries as needed and requested by project staff. Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
    • Prepare working summary reports of field and analytical laboratory data, and prepare data tables for reporting purposes.
    • Provide electronic data deliverables as needed.
    • Adhere to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project management
    • Control time and expenditures to achieve project goals.
    • Update job knowledge by reading historical documentation, publications; and other information specifically related to applicable disciplines.
    • Enhance company and organization reputation by accepting ownership for the team performance and adding value to assigned tasks.
    • Supervise environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, and evaluation and review of data collected in support of environmental restoration objectives.
    • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
    • Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
    • Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental restoration projects and programs.
    • Knowledge of the practical application of science and technology.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for describing the features of land, sea, and air masses, including their physical characteristics, locations, interrelationships, and distribution of plant, animal, and human life.
    • Knowledge of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.
    • Use scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
    • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
    • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

    EDUCATION
    • Bachelors’ degree in chemical, physical or environmental science, plus three (3) to five (5) years of experience conducting environmental investigations for jobs similar in size and complexity,
    • A broad understanding of federal and California environmental regulations with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience at RCRA/CERCLA sites,
    • Current appropriate training to include at a minimum:
    o Up to date 40 Hour HAZWOPER,
    o OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety, and
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct field environmental assessments of sites where hazardous and/or toxic waste may have been released from past operations.

    Other Requirements
    Meeting safety responsibilities and goals. Achieving quality requirements. Conducting team field investigations. Supervising junior staff. Understanding best management practices as they relate to environmental investigations. Implementing process improvement, and tracking and reporting on changes to scope and schedule.

    PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING: Required pre-employment drug testing utilizing urinalysis collection. A positive drug test makes the candidate ineligible for employment.
