    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm or as needed to successfully accomplish the essential functions of the position. Overtime is anticipated and may be required.
    Travel Requirements: Varies up to 25%
    Work Location: Taft, CA Field Office

    SUMMARY: This position will be based in the field office located at the Former Naval Petroleum Reserve (NPR) in Taft, CA. The Senior Project Manager will act as field team leader, conduct research and perform site investigations for the purpose of identifying and recommending solutions, assessing sources of pollutants or hazards that might have affected the environment during past operations. The Senior Project Manager will utilize their knowledge of various scientific disciplines to supervise the collecting, synthesizing and documentation of data from investigated areas and recommend solutions for site closure.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Senior Project Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • This person must be able to work with and direct multidisciplinary teams of environmental scientists and technicians.
    • The ability to work outside the office environment for extended periods involving exposure to the elements with weather that will include extreme heat, walking over rough and uneven surfaces, climbing, stooping, bending, and routine lifting of up to 50 pounds.
    • The ability to properly use personnel protective equipment (PPE) including the required use at all times of hard hats, steel toed boots, eye protection, and hearing protection.
    • Responsible for following the AFSI safety and health plans and for conducting work in a safe manner. All personnel working at NPR are required to observe the work activities in their immediate vicinity, adjusting their work activities, if necessary, to achieve a safe working environment and for stopping their work or the work of others if they observe a potentially unsafe or questionable work practice involving safety.
    • Environmental awareness including potential toxic and/or hazardous environments that may be encountered during normal work activities including the possibility of encountering hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S). H2S monitors are required PPE for all work activities at NPR sites.
    • Conduct and oversee assessments of Areas of Concern (AOC) in accordance with established work plans and/or procedures.
    • Prepare technical evaluations of AOC’s and/or AOC Groups using Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) guidelines.
    • Meet schedule and financial objectives by forecasting project progress and requirements.
    • Control time and expenditures to achieve project financial goals.
    • Evaluate possible corrective actions for individual AOC’s or AOC Groups.
    • Update job knowledge by reading historical documentation, publications; and other information.
    • Enhance company and organization reputation by accepting ownership for the teams’ performance and adding value to assigned tasks.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Education: Bachelors’ degree in science or engineering,
    Experience: Five (5) years as the project manager for jobs similar in size and complexity,
    Knowledge and Skills:
    o A thorough understanding of federal and California environmental regulations with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience at RCRA/CERCLA sites,
    o Demonstrated ability to write and review technical assessments of sites where hazardous and/or toxic waste may have been released from past operations,
    o Familiarity with human health and ecological risk assessments.

    Preferred Training and/or ability to acquire:
    o Up to date 40 Hour HAZWOPER,
    o OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety,
    o Oilfield Passport Training, and
    o First Aid/ CPR.

    PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING: Required pre-employment drug testing utilizing urinalysis collection. A positive drug test makes the candidate ineligible for employment.
