Sactown magazine is currently seeking editorial interns. We’re looking for spring interns to start in February and stay through late May (there is some flexibility depending on the candidate’s school calendar). If you’re interested, please send your resume, cover letter and writing samples. The position requires 24 hours of work per week (three full days a week is preferred, although partial days can work, too), including occasional evenings or weekends to cover local events. And please ONLY apply if you have some form of print journalism experience, either with a college publication or a consumer newspaper or magazine. Interns will learn the art of magazine publishing, and since the edit staff is small, interns will get more opportunities to write and work directly with the two editors-in-chief than at almost any other magazine. Interns will receive practical experience in reporting, research and fact checking, and will learn the mechanics of a creating an award-winning magazine. (Among other honors, Sactown magazine won the 2008 Maggie Award for Best City & Metropolitan Magazine.) Each intern will work closely with the editors, both of whom have extensive national experience (The New York Times, InStyle, Entertainment Weekly, Money, etc), on one or more sections of the magazine. This will be an exciting, fast-paced experience, and a great first step in a journalism career. The internship is unpaid. School credit may be available.
