Principal Responsibilities:
-Project manager for the California Legislative Staff Education Institute, with primary operational responsibility for the Institute’s Health and Higher Education policy cohorts, including organizing site visits/study missions, seminars and briefings, and related activities.
-Policy analyst and researcher for the Linked Learning Alliance, responsible for (1) conducting a wide range of quantitative, legal, fiscal, literature, and case research, (2) creating compelling infographics and other visualizations of data, relationships, processes, and concepts, (3) analyzing, developing, and evaluating policy proposals, (4) tracking and monitoring legislation and related administrative actions, and (5) writing briefs, articles, op-eds, fact sheets, and other materials for a diverse range of audiences.Required Knowledge and Skills:
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience using social media (such as Twitter and Facebook). Must be able to write easily, quickly, and clearly, in a variety of styles.
-Strong quantitative, data analysis, and evaluation skills, and proficiency in statistics, including the ability to perform basic regression analysis and to understand and interpret research which uses more complex quantitative tools.
-Familiarity with the concepts and models of microeconomics, equivalent to an intermediate microeconomics course.
-Strong skills in charting, visualization, data analysis, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software. Basic competency in Microsoft Office is necessary but NOT sufficient.
-Must be a self- starter, able to work independently and with a diverse team.
-Must demonstrate goal-oriented work ethic and strong attention to detail.
-Ability to handle numerous tasks concurrently and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
-Adept at developing and implementing diverse programs across multiple projects.
-A minimum of an Associate degree.Preferred Education and Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, political science, public policy, economics, law, or education.
-Either a graduate degree in one of these fields or a related field, or at least one year of experience in project management, health policy, linked learning, the California Legislature, policy analysis and development, quantitative research, journalism, or visualization. Currently-enrolled graduate students may be considered for part-time employment as a Policy Analyst.
-Policy content knowledge and/or experience in health policy and/or linked learning is preferred but not required.
-Familiarity with the structure, process, and institutions of the California Legislature.Applicants selected for consideration will be asked to complete a demonstration task upon arrival at the interview that will assess basic proficiency in research, statistics, analysis, data and concept visualization, and writing. SALARY AND BENEFITS Starting $40,000-$45,000 annually, plus a benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision coverage as well as a 401(K) with employer match. The range is determined by external grants and contracts and is not subject to negotiation, so please do not apply if your salary requirements exceed this range.
