Project Manager & Software Tester (Auburn, CA)
-
Sierra Data Systems is the leading enterprise mobility software company focused on transforming business processes to drive results for field service and logistics operations. We are seeking an individual to fill a dual role of Project Manager and Software Tester that is capable of handling a project from initial requirements through deployment.
Project Manager
The project manager role is expected to work with the sales and development teams to help create and deploy successful software solutions. This includes communicating application requirements; preparing and completing project plans; monitoring production and quality; resolving problems; determining application improvements; designing training materials; and facilitating change requests. The project manager also strives to achieve operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews and is expected to update their job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and/or participating in professional organizations. Most importantly, the position should enhance the organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to the overall product and customer experience.Software Tester
Testing plays an important role in development of new products and ongoing management of existing product lines. There’s a saying in the industry that behind every great software developer is an equally great tester. This is because once a product reaches a certain point in its development the developers must hand it over to the tester to see if it works (or doesn’t work) as it’s meant to. It will be your job to work as hard as you can to ‘break’ the new product or feature to help in the development process. You’ll work closely with programmers, user interface specialists, and program managers to understand more about what each product is meant to do, its key features and who will use it. Then you’ll run functional, use case, and customer scenario tests. Eventually, you will help design or write your own tests. The ultimate goal is to resolve any bugs and improve the quality of the finished product.Skills and Interests
You’ll often be working on more than one project at a time. This means you’ll work around the demands of the projects by switching from task to task as needed. You will need to stay organized, yet flexible. Experience using computers and the Internet is a given. In order to maintain a good working relationship with the development team you’ll need to balance tact and diplomacy with the confidence to be able to express suggestions to others.Other skills that we will look for include:
• The ability to learn and retain technical information and communicate such to non-technical persons.
• A natural curiosity and the ability to put oneself in the mindset of another person or group
• Superior organization skills and the ability to move from one open project to the next without losing momentum
• Aptitudes in process engineering
• A good understanding of the software development process
• A general understanding accounting practices
• Good judgment skills
• Good reading and writing skills
• Superior verbal communications skills
• The ability to work in a team and as an individual
