Online Content Editor (Downtown Sacramento)

The nonprofit, nonpartisan Water Education Foundation is looking for a part-time Online Content Editor to assist in the development of a new educational website focused on water issues. This position presents a unique opportunity to develop the editorial direction of a new online water encyclopedia while working closely with experienced writers and subject matter experts.
Qualified candidates must have excellent writing, editing and researching skills. The position will require strong attention to detail, excellent reading comprehension, and advanced computer and technical skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and HTML. Knowledge of California water issues is preferred. Prior experience in video editing a plus.
Must be able to coordinate activities with staff harmoniously, meet deadlines and manage projects effectively. Key qualifications include the ability to construct and manage an editorial agenda, quickly develop technical skills and learn new applications, generate high quality content, and display a high level of interest in becoming a subject matter expert in regard to California water issues. This is a part-time, in-office position (up to 24 hours a week and no benefits), and pay is $15-20 an hour based on experience. Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Policy or related field
• Practical editorial experience in an online or print editorial role (min. 2-5 years)
• A sharp editorial eye and exceptional attention to detail
• Command of AP Style
• Writing/reporting experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent computer/technical skills
• A strong working knowledge of HTML and/or Web design
• Proficiency with digital media, including web, mobile, social media and other digital content delivery platformsJob Responsibilities:
• Lead editorial direction of website under direction of Foundation team
• Develop subject focused web pages on water issues
• Work closely with Foundation team to develop and refine content
• Creatively drive improvements to editorial features on website
• Closely monitor news and current events relevant to water
• Manage flow of news content on website
• Identify online trends and incorporate into website
• Work efficiently and harmoniously within the confines of deadlines
