A Family Support Counselor provides behaviorally focused mental health services to children and families. These services, which are family focused and strength based, are provided in the community, including, but not limited to, schools, hospitals, and family homes.

Responsibilities

• Assist the birth/foster parents in all aspects of care and supervision of the child as needed
• Provide behaviorally focused mental health support services to clients and their families
• Plan and implement individual and group activities that encourage the child’s social development
• Complete the necessary Medi-Cal/mental health notes, written in a legible, billable, and a timely manner
• Submit incident reports and other necessary documentation in a timely, complete, and legible manner
• Provide supervision for visits with birth family when necessary
• Maintain a close and supportive relationship with the child’s educational placement that may include in-classroom support and tutorial assistance
• Participate in treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and IEP meetings when necessary

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in a social service related field
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Bilingual (Spanish and English) abilities a plus
• Prefer at least 9 months experience in working with emotionally disturbed children in residential care and/or in the community
• Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekend days as needed
• Fingerprint clearances
• Own vehicle, CDL, and insurance

• Full-time
• Hours will vary

Compensation

• $13.50 an hour with a BA/BS
• Additional stipend for bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities upon passing Language Exam.
• 4 weeks paid time off

We are currently looking for Homestay Coordinators located in the San Francisco Bay Area/Northern California region to recruit host families in their local area for students participating in the Tomodachi Softbank Leadership Program, managed by Ayusa. The students will be living with host families for the weekend of August 3rd to 5th.

Position Dates: Now thru August 6, 2012

Basic responsibilities include the following:

• Recruit host families through community outreach and local program promotion. Ayusa training will provide many creative suggestions for finding quality families in the community. Ayusa will provide material to aid your recruitment efforts.

• Conduct a host family interview, visiting with all family members and assessing the home environment. We need safe, supportive and stable host families for our students. Maintain contact with your host families during the homestay component.

• Conduct host family orientations.

• Provide assistance and support to students and host families during the homestay component. Act as back up host in the case of an emergency.

Program Description: Tomodachi Summer SoftBank Leadership Program

The Tomodachi Initiative is a public-private partnership supported by the US and Japanese governments that supports Japan’s recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The goal of the program is to foster the next generation of Japanese and Americans, a ” Tomodachi generation” of driven doers, thinkers and creators who are invested in the future of U.S.-Japan relations, appreciate each other’s cultures and countries, and possess the globally oriented skills and mindsets needed to thrive and make a difference. Led by Ayusa International in partnership with the University of California — Berkeley’s Center for Cities & Schools, students will partake in a unique civic engagement and leadership initiative called Y-PLAN (Youth — Plan, Learn, Act, Now) aimed at preparing a group of 300 Japanese youth to be leaders of change and revitalization.

Since 1981, Ayusa has been a leader in providing life-changing cultural exchange experiences for high school students around the world. As part of the Tomodachi initiative, Ayusa has designed an intensive three week program for Japanese high school students focusing on global leadership development and community service in collaboration with the University of California, Berkeley. Students will learn leadership skills, and develop individual community service action and volunteer projects to implement in their home communities when they return home. The program will feature extensive contact with Americans through their academic program, a weekend homestay, social and sightseeing activities, along with exposure to American culture and values.

Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center (SAEHC) continues to be a profound force in moving homeless families and individuals to higher levels of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Started as a Family Shelter program in 1972 meeting the basic needs of seven homeless families, the agency now serves an average of 1,650 program participants each year in 13 programs. In its shelters, transitional housing, and community services programs, agency goals include the provision of individualized case plans, self-sufficiency workshops and groups such as living skills, parenting, budgeting, housing, health and mental health care, housing relocation assistance, and community support services. SAEHC has not only developed a rich history and incorporated other service goals into its overall mission; it has managed its programs in such a way that they make visible and measurable change in people’s lives.

The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, and pays $1,148.44 semi-monthly plus mileage and medical benefits after 90 days. Dental and vision benefits also available.

Master’s Degree preferred with a minimum of one year pertinent experience in Social Services with an emphasis on casework and individual and/or group counseling; OR any combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the knowledge and ability to complete the duties outlined above. Bi-Lingual/Bi-Cultural knowledge is desirable. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, proof of valid automobile insurance and DOJ clearance are required.
