COUNSELOR TO KIDS! (Sacramento, CA)

  • The Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento is committed to changing the lives of abused and neglected children and their families by providing a safe haven of comfort, hope and healing! We are looking for On Call Residential Counselors to help out with our kids!

    Position Summary:Under the direction of the Residential Supervisor, the Residential Counselor is responsible for the daily care and supervision of agency clients and living conditions. The Residential Counselor position is responsible for the daily care and supervision of agency clients and living conditions. Great position for that person who wants to pick up a few spare hours here and there. Responsible for creating a favorable group climate in which the child’s safety, emotional nurturing and healthy development are of primary concern. Provide a caring, warm environment for the children through setting clear boundaries and encouraging positive behaviors. Responsible for helping clients build self-esteem, age appropriate interpersonal skills, positive thinking, problem solving and coping skills. Responsible for the hour by hour care, safety, supervision, protection, guidance and discipline of the group as a whole and for each child as an individual. Responsible for meeting the health and personal hygiene needs of the children under their care. Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
    • Not required, but 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units from an accredited college or university is certainly a plus!
    • Must have good organizational skills and be able to make decisions in a firm, timely and equitable manner.
    • Must have a positive interest in the care and developmental needs of our clients.
    • Must be able to report to work on a regular and reliable basis; we have a ratio to keep!
    • Must have a valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance, so you can drive our clients to fun events and appointments!
    • Comply with Title 22, Department of Social Services Licensing Regulations.
    • Employee must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position as the job requires some strenuous activities.
    • Must be able to lift 30 pounds, more than 30 pounds with assistance.
    • Must be able to sit, stand, squat, or bend for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to reach over head for short periods of time.
    • Must be able to help a child with clothing, zippers, buttons, snaps, and tying shoes, and other tasks such as these.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time in an efficient manner.

    The Children’s Receiving Home provides direct care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
